Helping seniors grow old at home
Creating solutions for free choice among seniors
When her grandparents needed help, Alison Green realized how limited solutions were. Knowing her way around the medical world and with her experience in quality process management, she searched for solutions to meet the growing needs of an aging population. In 2008, she launched Bien Chez Soi, which offers a wide range of personalized home care that can be scaled for use a few hours a week or around the clock, based on the senior’s needs and health. Services include assistance with bathing and hygiene, meal preparation, errands and housekeeping, post-operative and convalescent care, assistance with physiotherapy exercises, care for people with Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, and even palliative care. Bien Chez Soi does whatever it can to help seniors enjoy complete quality of life at home. With 39 points of service and 650 employees throughout the province, the support franchise created by Alison Green has become the leader in the field in Québec and enables a growing number of seniors to live at home with dignity.
Supporting entrepreneurship among women
Three quarters of Bien Chez Soi franchises are female owned, and 98% of the employees are women. From the outset, Alison Green has taken into account her employees’ lives by offering them flexible, long-term contracts, while creating a healthy, positive, rewarding work environment. Many tools were put in place to achieve this, enabling the company to receive certification in 2018 from the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) as an employer that promotes balance between work, school, and personal life. The result is an incredible retention rate of 86%, significantly higher than the industry average in Canada, which is 34%.
The key to success
With human processes and computer tools at the cutting edge of Bien Chez Soi can create an optimal match between personnel and clients, whether finding a carer who speaks a language other than French or English or one who shares interests with the person being cared for. This method of selection, based on the needs and personality of participants, generates trust between the caregiver and the clients, ensuring stable support. With its service and care network focused on dignity, respect, safety, and accessibility, Bien Chez Soi has become a model in home support, not only with its flexible, personalized offer for seniors, but also with the family assistance program, which our population needs.
